This wasn't exactly the woven raffia fabric I'd been looking for, but the two textures seemed to be good enough friends that I decided to go with it.
The trip to the fabric store also resulted in some additional hat-related purchases, namely a mint green silk shantung with embroidered black polka dots that was screaming to be draped into a turban hat. This fabric went beautifully with a black and white flocked French silk netting:
There were several color variations of this French silk netting, but the one that popped immediately was a luscious deep magenta (my camera is unfortunately incapable of doing justice to it). The color, though not for the faint of heart, would be beautiful on practically any skin tone or hair color as it has a violet undertone. Fascinators, anyone?
