Lisa Shaub

From the moment I got started on this project, one of the things that excited me most was not knowing where my research would take me and who I would meet along the way.  Case in point: during my visit to Manhatco, I met milliner Lisa Shaub, who is also the current Vice President of the Milliner's Guild.  Shaub studied millinery with Ann Albrizio at the Fashion Institute of Technology here in New York City, and has been in business for twenty-two years.  A tour of Shaub's website took me to her YouTube channel, where you can find a number of her hat reviews executed with flair and finesse.  I found her review on cocktail hats especially charming:

Shaub's hats have a wonderful range of styles, from easy and casual to the more eccentric yet still very wearable.  This more dramatic pheasant and coq feather cocktail hat is one of my favorites (can you  imagine how the feathers would bounce and float as the wearer walks?):

I will be sure to stop by Shaub's Nolita store to look at her larger selection of handcrafted and one-of-a-kind designs.  Her work exemplifies the importance of personality when it comes to the making (and wearing) of hats.
