Getting ready to head out of town for the holiday weekend, but in light of recent events in my home country I was reminded of some images our teacher showed us in History of Fashion last semester, while the uprising in Egypt was in full swing:
Innovation (a subject this blog is not a stranger to) was one theme that came up in the discussion, as we looked at image after image of people in the streets who had found a million different ways to protect themselves using even rubble from bombings to their advantage.
But it was one question from the discussion that stayed with me - a question asked by my teacher in the usual, deceptively simple way, belying the gravity of its implications. And this is the question I am reminded of today as I look at my fellow countrymen/women/children in Athens, the city I was born and raised in:
